A group collects related resources, such as the devices in a room. Group membership helps clients discover targets and organize controls. ## Names and membership A name is a label. Use a full group ID when reading or changing membership. Groups can contain nested relationships, so inspect the members and remove duplicate targets before a group command. ## Control and access A group is not a guarantee that every member supports the same command or permits access. Check the capabilities and permissions of each selected endpoint. Report failed or unavailable members separately. ## Different kinds of groups A room, a provider media group, and a vacuum cleaning target can have different meanings. Preserve the relationships returned by the provider. Follow [Manage groups and membership](/docs/user-guides/how-to-manage-groups-and-membership/) to change a group.
