Connect Grok to your Port OS devices with a remote MCP server and OAuth. Grok supports MCP through custom connectors on grok.com. You need a Port OS account with at least one connected device.

Check [supported smart-home devices and alpha availability](/smart-home-mcp/) before linking your account.

## Connection details

Enter this server URL:

Then use these settings:

| Setting | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Name | Port OS |
| Server URL | `https://api.portoperatingsystem.com/mcp` |
| Authentication | OAuth, through the Port OS sign-in |

Grok reaches the server from xAI's cloud, so it needs the public server URL above. A localhost URL on your computer cannot be reached. You do not enter a client ID or secret.

## 1. Open Grok's Plugins page

Go to [grok.com/connectors](https://grok.com/connectors) and sign in to Grok if needed. The **Plugins** page opens on the **Connectors** tab, with **Connected** connectors at the top and featured connectors below.

## 2. Add a custom connector

Click **New**, then **Connector**. In the **New Connector** list, choose **Custom** ("Add your own custom connector").

## 3. Enter the Port OS server

The **Custom Connector** form asks for a name and an MCP server URL. Enter **Port OS** as the name and paste the server URL above, then click **Add Connector**.

## 4. Sign in and allow access

A Port OS authorization window opens. Sign in with the Port OS account that owns your devices. Check that the requesting client is Grok, review the permissions, then click **Allow**. You can uncheck permissions you do not want to grant; the matching features will be unavailable.

Port OS then appears under **Connected**, with the host `api.portoperatingsystem.com`.

## 5. Use Port OS in a chat

Start a new chat and try something you can undo: **"Using Port OS, turn off the kitchen light."** Compare the device names Grok uses with [Your Devices](/dashboard/).

Grok can control any device type Port OS supports. In our test it also played YouTube on an Android TV:

If a request is ambiguous, Grok searches your rooms and devices and asks which one you mean rather than guessing:

Name your lights and put them in rooms in Port OS, and requests like "turn off the living room lights" work directly. See how Grok compared with ChatGPT, Claude and Meta Muse in [our smart home test](/blog/grok-smart-home/).

## Troubleshooting

- If Grok says authentication is required, or Port OS tools stop working, remove the connector and add it again, then sign in.
- If the sign-in window does not open, check whether your browser blocked the pop-up.
- If no devices appear, confirm you signed in to the same Port OS account as [Your Devices](/dashboard/) and that it has connected devices.
- If an operation is denied, review the permissions you granted. Remove the connector, add it again and approve the missing permission.
- Custom connectors worked in our test on an account without Grok Premium. If **New Connector** is missing, check xAI's connector documentation for your plan.
