Control SmartThings devices with ChatGPT, Claude and Port OS
Connect your SmartThings location to Port OS. Give your AI access to supported lights, switches, thermostats, locks, sensors and appliances.
Bring supported devices from your SmartThings location into an AI conversation. Port OS connects through SmartThings OAuth, so your assistant can use the controls and readings exposed by your Samsung and connected third-party devices.

What you can do
- Switch supported lights and plugs, set brightness or change supported colours.
- Read temperatures and sensor information, or adjust a supported thermostat.
- Use available lock, blind, fan and media controls.
- Check supported appliance state, such as a washer's running state or a refrigerator's temperature.
Try “Turn off the kitchen lights” or “Is the washing machine running?” Device support follows the SmartThings capabilities exposed for each component. A device category alone does not guarantee every feature in its manufacturer's app.
What you need
You need a Samsung account with access to the intended SmartThings location. Port OS currently requires you to register your own SmartThings OAuth-In app with Samsung's CLI, then save its client ID and secret in the Port OS website.
The setup guide includes the redirect URI, required scopes and registration steps. Personal access tokens are no longer supported for this connection. An existing SmartThings hub or manufacturer bridge may still be needed by your devices; Port OS adds no separate hub.
Connect your location
- Follow the SmartThings guide to register the app and prepare its credentials.
- Choose SmartThings, save those credentials in the website, then approve the location and device access on SmartThings.
- Check Your Devices and connect your AI with the permissions you want to grant.
If devices or actions are missing
Check the selected SmartThings location and the app's required scopes. A redirect mismatch or invalid client error usually needs the registration values corrected before another authorization attempt. Enter secrets only in the Port OS connection form.
For a connected device, inspect the controls Port OS actually shows. Use the lighting guide, sensor guide or appliance guide for the task you need.
