Control Android TV and Google TV with AI
Pair the Port OS Android TV app to control playback, volume and remote buttons, or request a screen image, from a compatible AI assistant.
Use your AI assistant as a remote for a supported Android TV or Google TV. The Port OS TV app connects the television to Port OS cloud, so you can control playback and interact with the screen through the website or your AI.

What you can do
- Play or pause supported media and adjust volume or mute.
- Launch supported YouTube and Spotify media on the TV.
- Send remote buttons such as Home, Back and directional keys.
- Tap the screen or request a screen image when the required accessibility permission is enabled.
- Read the playback and connectivity information reported by the app.
For example, ask “Pause the living room TV” or “Show me what is on the TV screen.” Available actions depend on the app version, permissions and the TV app being controlled.
What you need
You need a Google TV or Android TV with Google Play Services, a Port OS account and a computer for the installation steps. The current setup installs the Port OS APK using Android platform tools and grants the app the permissions it needs. It is not a one-click app-store installation.
The TV must be on and connected to the internet. A sleeping TV cannot receive app commands. Fire TV and devices without Google Play Services do not use this integration; see the separate Alexa connection for supported Alexa-connected devices.
Install and pair
- Follow the Android TV guide to install the app and enable its required permissions.
- Open Port OS on the TV and approve its pairing code on the Port OS website.
- Check Your Devices, then connect your AI and try a simple playback request.
The guide includes the current download, commands and permission checks. Keep any other accessibility services enabled when adding Port OS.
If the TV does not react
Check that it is on and online, then open the Port OS app to review missing setup permissions. Playback information needs media-session access; buttons, taps and screen images need accessibility access. Reinstalling the app or clearing its data can require pairing again.
A delivered command does not prove that the TV changed. Check the screen or reported state when you need confirmation. Screen images can contain private content, so review your AI client's data settings and the Port OS privacy policy.
