Control Philips Hue with ChatGPT, Claude and Port OS
Connect your Hue Bridge and account to Port OS cloud. Control supported lights, rooms, zones and scenes through your AI assistant.
Use the Hue lights you already own from an AI conversation. Port OS connects to your Philips Hue account through the cloud, so a compatible assistant can find supported lights, adjust them and work with your Hue rooms and zones.

What you can do
| Task | Supported Hue controls |
|---|---|
| Change a light | On/off, brightness, supported colour and colour temperature |
| Control a room or zone | Adjust the lights in a discovered native Hue room or zone |
| Save or recall a scene | Save a supported room's current static lighting settings, or activate a scene that belongs to that room or zone |
| Check a light | Read available state and reachability; unavailable state stays unknown |
Try a specific request such as “Set the desk light to 40%” or “Recall the evening scene in the living room.” Available controls depend on the light and the permissions you grant. A white-only bulb does not gain colour controls by connecting it to an assistant.
Generated product UI example: this lighting card illustrates Port OS controls. It is not a screenshot of a physical Philips Hue light being controlled. Your connected light shows the controls and current state it actually supports.
What you need
You need a Port OS account, compatible Hue lights, a Hue Bridge and a Hue account with access to that system. Port OS uses Hue's remote service rather than Bluetooth-only control. Philips explains the account and Bridge requirements for out-of-home access.
You do not need to run a separate Port OS server or Home Assistant installation. Your Bridge, internet connection and the provider's service still need to be available. This alpha integration covers its declared lighting controls; it does not promise support for every Hue product, security feature or lighting effect.
Connect in three steps
- Choose Philips Hue, sign in to Port OS if needed, and complete Hue's authorization screen. Use the account with access to the intended Bridge.
- Open Your Devices and check the discovered lights, rooms and zones. Linking a provider and authorizing an AI assistant are separate steps.
- Connect your assistant, approve its intended access and start with one clearly named light. Request a fresh state check if you want to verify a change.
The lighting guide explains choosing the right lights and groups. The room scene guide covers saving and recalling supported scenes without confusing the two actions.
Compatibility and troubleshooting
If lights are missing, check the Hue account and Bridge in the Hue app before reconnecting. If a light is reachable in the app but absent in Port OS, contact support with the model and the failed step; keep tokens and account secrets private.
A light switched off at the wall can remain discoverable while its current state is unavailable. A scene also belongs to a particular native room or zone. Choose the right group rather than trying a scene from another room, and resolve uncertain state before saving a scene snapshot.
Review the provider connection guide and connection troubleshooting for the full procedure. Provider account access and your AI client's device permissions both affect what it can do.
Availability and privacy
Philips Hue is available in the Port OS alpha catalog. Confirm your particular setup before relying on it, and ask us about current availability or pricing if needed. Your assistant and provider may have separate account or subscription requirements.
Port OS is a cloud service. Review the privacy policy and the permissions on each connection. Remove the AI connection and the Hue provider link separately when you no longer want either to have access.
